Karen: "MAGIC!!!! Pregnant after first use (after ttc for a year!!)"
So, two cycles ago I bought the Clearblue Fertility Monitor. Without this, I was not pinpointing my ovulation date correctly and our "trying" window was much longer and turned into a job. Also, some months I was off by almost a whole week because once we started ttc, my cycles went all wonky and length changed from about 28-30 days to 36-38 days!!). This monitor is better than ovulation sticks because it tests for estrogen and LH so gives you a longer window to do the deed and ensure there are enough spermies when the egg makes an appearance on the scene. Last month (the first time using it), the monitor was getting to know my body and I got no peak fertility days (only 6 days of high fertility), but this month I had three high fertility days and two peak fertility days. We did the deed all 5 days and struck gold. Only got to use the monitor for two cycles!!! (read other reviews on this monitor on amazon - it's amazing).
OK so now that we had the timing right, in came the real champion. After my first BFN with the monitor, I decided to order Conceive Plus to make sure I was doing everything I could to up my chances. I kept reading all these BFP stories of people that got their BFP after months or years of ttc after their first time using Conceive Plus or Preseed (both products help spermies live longer and make it to the ultimate destination). I kept reading over and over that people were getting prego after the first month of using it. After a year, I was willing to try anything so I got Conceive Plus (I preferred this to Preseed because it has minerals like calcium, etc, in it that supposedly help sperm survive the journey). It was really fun to use, felt very natural, and made the process different and fun, and best of all, it gave us our BFP!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know if it was low sperm count, not enough cervical mucous, or too acidic an environment in my body or what, but Conceive Plus blasted any of those potential issues out of the water. It was like a one two punch - the monitor helped us know we were precise on timing, and then the Conceive Plus was like a protective bubble for the sperm to help them survive until misses egg showed!!!!
I highly recommend both these products because without them who knows how much longer I'd be waiting for my BFP!!!!
FYI - one issue I had with ordering was that I ordered an 8-pack of the prefilled applicators, and when it arrived it was only a trial 3-pack. I contacted amazon and they gave me a refund (and refunded my shipping because I paid for 2-day shipping so it would get here on time) and told me to place another order and they would ship it for free. I placed another order for an 8-pack, but again received a 3-pack. Contacted amazon again and they refunded me completely. I wrote a note to the company letting them know something might be wrong on their warehouse end, and then placed ANOTHER order for two 8-packs and voila! Two 8-packs showed up! (so hopefully this issue is fixed) The thing is, now I have a TON of it and don't need it!!!!!! Luxury problem!!! :)

Shop Now →How does the Clearblue Fertility Monitor differ from standard ovulation predictor kits (OPKs)?
The Clearblue Fertility Monitor tests for both estrogen and luteinizing hormone (LH), providing a longer fertile window (typically 5-6 days) compared to standard OPKs that only detect the LH surge. This dual-hormone tracking helps identify high fertility days in addition to peak fertility days, giving couples more opportunities to time intercourse correctly. The monitor also learns your individual cycle pattern over time, which can be especially helpful if your cycles are irregular or have changed length.
Is the Clearblue Fertility Monitor FDA approved and covered by insurance?
Yes, the Clearblue Fertility Monitor is FDA-cleared as a medical device for home use in predicting ovulation. However, insurance coverage varies significantly by plan and carrier—many plans do not cover fertility monitors or ovulation prediction devices as they are considered diagnostic tools rather than treatments. We recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to inquire about coverage options, and speaking with your fertility clinic if you're working with one, as they may have information about coverage or patient assistance programs.
What does 'sperm-friendly' lubricant mean, and how does it differ from regular lubricant?
Sperm-friendly lubricants like Conceive Plus and Preseed are formulated to mimic the pH and osmolality of fertile cervical mucus, allowing sperm to survive and swim freely without being harmed. Regular lubricants (including water-based and silicone-based options) can be toxic to sperm and may impair their motility or lifespan. If you need additional lubrication during intercourse while trying to conceive, using a sperm-friendly product is recommended by fertility specialists.
Should I see a fertility specialist if I've been trying to conceive for a year without success?
Yes, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) recommends that couples under age 35 who have been trying to conceive for one year without success should see a fertility specialist for evaluation. If you're 35 or older, it's recommended after six months of trying. A fertility specialist can perform tests to check for ovulation issues, sperm health, blocked fallopian tubes, and other factors that may be preventing conception, and can recommend appropriate treatment options.
Can irregular cycle length affect ovulation timing, and how can I track it accurately?
Yes, irregular cycles can make ovulation timing unpredictable—cycle lengths can vary by several days or even weeks, making calendar-based methods unreliable. Tools like the Clearblue Fertility Monitor, basal body temperature (BBT) charting, or cervical mucus observation can help identify ovulation more accurately than calendar methods alone. If you have consistently irregular cycles (longer than 35 days or varying by more than 7-9 days), it's worth discussing with your healthcare provider, as it may indicate underlying conditions like PCOS or thyroid issues that could benefit from treatment.
What factors can affect sperm survival and should I get tested for low sperm count?
Sperm survival is affected by vaginal pH, cervical mucus quality, timing of intercourse, and overall reproductive health. If you've been trying to conceive for a year without success, male factor infertility testing (semen analysis) is a standard part of the fertility evaluation and should be performed by a fertility clinic. Your partner's sperm count, motility, and morphology can significantly impact conception chances, and testing can help identify if this is contributing to your difficulty conceiving.
Are there any health risks or side effects associated with using fertility monitors or sperm-friendly lubricants?
Fertility monitors and sperm-friendly lubricants are generally considered safe when used as directed; the Clearblue Fertility Monitor is non-invasive and simply reads hormone levels from urine, while sperm-friendly lubricants are formulated to be compatible with reproductive health. However, some people may have sensitivities to ingredients in lubricants, so it's worth checking the product ingredients if you have known allergies. If you experience any unusual symptoms or have concerns about using these products, consult with your healthcare provider or fertility specialist.
